Single Use Plastic's Argument

Plastic bags, straws, cups and many more plastic items you’ve seen these before in video’s showing the effect 'single-use' plastic has. With plastic bags flying through a street, but is banning 'single-use' plastic’ the answer or making ‘Eco Plastics’ going to reduce the environmental strain put on our world? Or should everyone redirect their efforts toward controlling the problem, or finding ways around the environmental damage it causes. As it could be the regular population to blame, or are the corporate franchises contributing the most. Though one of the worst problems could be how it is recycled... Because of this, in my opinion, I believe that our 'single-use' plastic solutions are not helping and the blame should be on you!

Has it ever occurred to you that ‘Eco’ plastics are still as harmful as plastic? As in New Zealand 'Eco' plastics are being marketed as the ‘Eco-friendly’ alternative, but in our country, we have no way to recycle them! The disposable plastic facilities in New Zealand are lacking, but the 'Eco' plastics especially have no plants that can dispose of them in the way intended for their disbursement. This creates an even larger inconvenience to disposing of the ‘Eco’ plastic’s as it'd require additional infrastructure which could be used in controlling the normal plastics as to shifting attention to ‘Eco’ plastics.

Secondly, it isn’t developed countries that output the majority of the planet, but if anything putting tariffs on the export of plastic to the countries without ways to dispose of it could help control the problem. While countries are located usually around Asia and Africa as they usually don’t have the infrastructure to dispose of it, in turn these countries are usually the ones that suffer from the effects. But if you redirect your attention toward not buying their goods the problem could be partially controlled! Thus giving them an incentive to change their ways for good.

As well the blame is being put on fast food places which distribute it, but is it their fault? No! As the average meal at your average takeaways doesn’t contribute that much when you consider how much plastic the average New Zealander puts out daily in comparison, but as well the fast food eat outs like McDonald’s provide waste bins! When the average person buys single-use items which are marketed to rival plastic, but they still get thrown away and degrade, so saying cooking at home has less plastic output is false as the food you by from stores is packed in plastic. It’s a lose-lose scenario!

Plastic… It is made out to be a wonder product, but is it really? It has significant disposal problems, but is it really the manufacturers to blame … Instead of introducing 'Eco' plastics the problem at hand should be reverted first before the 'Eco'-plastic Endeavour is looked into fully. As well the blame media puts onto fast food places is uncalled for and should be directed elsewhere toward the real ‘Ecological’ problems. Because of this, I believe that our single-use’ plastic solutions are not helping, and the blame should be redirected elsewhere!
