The Boy On The Wooden Box is a nonfiction account on a child survivor of the holocaust named Leon Leyson, for it shows life before the holocaust and after the holocaust, with the main of the book centering around his holocaust experience.  He and his parents and a few of his siblings were saved by Oskar Schindler with him being on Schindler's list.  It shows the horrid circumstances of the holocaust and how there was still some humanity in these times.

With the book it starts out in a small village, with Leon (The Main Character) showing life long before the holocaust, though tensions between the polish people and jewish are existent that gives another field of view and some depth into the situation already at hand with it increasing more and more over the duration.  Then his dad moving by himself to a polish city called Krakow ,later on to gather the money to get the rest of the family over.  In between then the tensions skyrocket with there being high discrimination against the jews, with riots and with many public services as Church, School and more.  This part shows in my opinion shows the already existing racism and tensions and really explains how the events to come really could of occurred, I think without this part it would be unclear on the situation at hand.

Eventually the dad gathers enough money for the rest of the family to live with him where the racism against the jews is less severe, after settling down in Krakow news of the holocaust emerges the  discrimination starts and is much worse than the last place he lived in, soon after that WW2 hits with the city having bombings occur occasionally, for the german troops to move into the city.  It at first isn’t that bad ,but  it gets worse over the duration.  With brutalities starting to occur rapidly.  This part really shows in my opinion how the news spreaded back then and how people would somehow go along with these crimes.

Then they were crammed into ghettos and were used for slavery and were mistreated.  Though Schindler found a way to get them away from the torture and use them as workers in his company, with him always being able to bribe and outsmart the Nazis.  This really is showen it throughout the book and without Schindler's attempts the author wouldn’t of written this book, for he’ll be dead.

This book shows the brutal end of the holocaust, but manages to show the light in these dark times, with the writer taking many dangerous actions.  It’s a miracle that the writer survived in these times.  I would say the book is a wonderful piece that shows the humanity in these times, I would recommend it to anyone and I'd enjoy to read it again.
