Double or Die Book Analysis Double or Die is a part of the Young Bond series by Charlie Higson where young James Bond continues after the events of the previous book. As he is back at Eton College where his friend Pritpal gets a suspicious letter from Alexis Fairburn, Alexis Fairburn is in charge of the Crossword society, but the letter’s regarding him leaving the country, but that’s what it seems to be. As the letter babbles on with false historic events, badly spelt and confusing sentences, but it can be decoded into seven clues as Pritpal learns. As he lazily solves the first clue out of boredom which states ‘solve seven cryptic clues’. As from there, the clues cause them to run into Wolfgang and Ludwig Smith, the brothers work for Sir John Charnage who they assume off the clues kidnaped Alexis Fairburn for the ‘Computing Machine’. Character Analysis

The protagonist in this story in my opinion would be Mathilda as it revolves around her. Mathilda is a dynamic character which is supported by her changing her quality of life to make up for paying off the necklace. As supported by ‘ She had become the woman of impoverished households -- strong and hard and rough. ’ Where change is quite sudden as the story leaps ten years into the future! She’s best described as round as she shows the struggle, yet she overcomes to unfortunately find it hadn’t unnecessary, but she shows many sides of her personality during the piece. The author uses indirect characterization but it can be easily inferred as Mathilda’s wants to be different from everyone else, so breaking out of family tradition she marries a poorer clerk. As to a rich businessman as it mentions briefly, but it is certain throughout the piece that her expectations of glamour are far-fetched which makes a conflict within her. Short Story Analysis 2 (The Monkey's Paw)

The Monkey’s Paw is a story set back in the 1900’s were it revolves around an unfortunate event of slight greed. As the three main characters are named Old Man , Old Woman (, yet it does sometimes refer to them as Mrs or Mr White) and Herbet White that is their son. The story starts in the place the story stays in for the whole story, for it’s the main character's house. So they have a visitor/friend that had previously told them a bit about a monkey’s paw. Now Mr White deliberately brings it up to hear the story, but at first he is reluctant but he says the story that is ‘It had a spell put on it by an old fakir, a very holy man. He wanted to show that fate ruled people's lives, and that those who interfered with it did so to their sorrow. He put a spell on it so that three separate men could each have three wishes from it.’ So after saying that he gets doubtful saying that he would actually rather burn the paw.
